Elizabeth Taylor Heads to Hospital for Heart Procedure
NEW YORK (WPIX) - Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor said she is headed to the hospital for heart surgery.
The 77-year-old actress took to Twitter to tell her more than 100-thousand followers that she was going to undergo a "very new" procedure to improve heart function that "involves repairing my leaky valve using a clip device," rather than open heart surgery.
The two-time Oscar winner told her loyal fans she is counting on them for support.
"Any prayers you happen to have lying around I would dearly appreciate," she wrote on Tuesday.
She was recently sent to the hospital last May for what her publicist described as a routine checkup. Over the years, she has battled a number of medical problems - including a benign brain tumor, having both hips replaced, and suffering bouts of skin cancer and pneumonia.
Taylor appeared to be in good health when she attended Michael Jackson's burial service last month.
Taylor did not disclose where or when she was having the procedure.
